It tests whether you can understand, speak, read and write in Spanish, within a specific time, format, and set of criteria. And your performance is scored against those specific parameters.

Here's the exam format of DELE B1 and the criteria for how you're ranked:

Four skills, graded in two groups.

Reading and listening form one group, writing and speaking the other. You need a passing average in both groups to pass overall — we track this in every mock so nothing's a surprise on exam day.
